Digital marketing is a broad subject. Here are some questions I was asked in a past Q&A session and the answers to them, which are useful for anyone looking into digital marketing.
Question 1: Do I Need a Website?
Yes. You do need a website, because it is your base of operations. On a website you can keep all your content for potential clients and when done right it is an excellent resource for current clients too. You can put in FAQ and the answers, product information, tips and tricks and even downloadable content.
Customers expect your business to have a website. It is professional to have one and you won’t be seen as a serious business if you do not have a website.
You do not own Social Media platforms and have no control over there rules or practices. If the rules change you can lose your entire audience. Even worse, the social media platform you have dedicated all that time to may be no longer popular and you are left talking to an audience of one (you).
Question 2: How Often Should I Post on Social Media?
This depends on your audience. For some businesses more is better for their clients.
For smaller businesses you will be fine with posting just once a day.
Have you looked at your insights and analytics recently? Take note of when you get the most activity to see when your audience is online and post then. Often it is a matter of testing to see what works for you.

Question 3: Why Don’t My Business Card and My Digital Logo Look the Same?
This is not strictly a digital marketing question. It is relevant however and you will find that printed images look different from images on a screen. This is due to something called a colour gamut. A printer cannot produce the same colour that we can see on an iPhone or computer. Some colours are particularly hard to reproduce, such as lime greens, bright blues and purples.
Companies such as Tiffany’s and Cadbury’s Chocolates have special extra colours in their printing process to get the ideal outcome. If you look inside a cardboard box, you may see evidence of this.
Question 4: Can I Post Silly Videos?
Certainly no one is stopping you but you have to ask yourself: is it relevant to my brand?
You can post cute cat videos daily if you want. It will not help your business grow however, because likes for likes’ sake does not get you potential customers.
If you own a vet business or something related to cats, then posting them is fine but remembers that you are a business and your posts should be relevant to the business.
Question 5: Is Digital Marketing a Waste?
It can be both a waste of money and time if you do it wrong.
Some businesses have wasted thousands of dollars a day on the wrong marketing and others will spend pennies and turn it into a broad success. You should aim for somewhere in the middle of this.
Marketing should return a profit of around 300% to your business.
For every dollar you spend you should get at least 3 dollars back. You should be aware of who your target audience is and how to advertise to them effectively. If you are marketing to the wrong people, there is no point.
