Irish poet William Butler Yeats once said, “think like a wise man, but communicate in the language of the people.” This can apply to all aspects of your life – specifically for this article though, I’d like to talk about the way your marketing works for potential clients and how they see you.
Personalized advertising is proven to get far more attention than your average pushy car sales techniques. Even better than that, however, is when you create a human connection to the potential customer through your advertising. If your business feels more like everyday people working to help and less like a distant corporate entity, a connection is more likely to be formed.
Humanizing your business goes a long way. You can start simple, like doing the below:
- Signing Newsletters with Your Name
- Telling the Story of Your Business
- Using Personalized Language on Socials (I, We)
- Putting Staff Photos on Your Website and Socials
Are You Relatable?
People respond to things they can relate to. And if they’re responding, they’re interested, and if they’re interested they’re more likely to buy.
Sharing your past mistakes or flaws may seem like a bad idea – in some respects it can actually help you, because these things make you seem more human to potential clients. They will see you as someone to relate to, someone who is working hard and doing your best just like they are. Relatability can make that human connection easy.
Are You Accessible?
Have you ever tried to get ahold of a business and been completely unable to? Maybe you’ve called their business number and been redirected twenty times, only to be put on hold for an hour with your problems no closer to being fixed than they were before.
Clients want to feel like you are only a phone call away if they need you. A quick response from a real person can grow that human connection. If you can be accessed, clients are more likely to come to you with their issues – and then you can fix them! Gratitude goes a long way as well.
Are You Consistent?
Experimenting with social media is fairly normal for businesses, but you want to make sure it isn’t giving your audience whiplash. Being consistent with your marketing makes sure you feel reliable to people viewing your content.
Decide on a vibe:
- Professional and Formal (Make sure you don’t sound like a robot if you choose this one!)
- Interested and Conversational
- Friendly and Bright
Clients want people they can communicate with – are you engaging them in discussion on social media? Remember that you are trying to get a response, not to speak over them. This helps to make them feel as if they are talking with a real person for that human touch.
Develop a Relationship With Potential Clients
Strong client relationships are what make a business flourish. Create a one-on-one connection with the audience you are speaking to, and make them feel like they are close to you and that you are close to them.
Do they know you on a first-name basis?
